A bicyclist was killed, a truck driver was seriously injured, and a suspected impaired driver is facing charges following a hit and run collision, police said
It happened about 8:30 p.m. Friday when a black Dodge was speeding northbound in the 4200 block of Davie Road, Sgt. Mark Leone told .
“A vehicle killed that bicyclist on impact, continued northbound until it struck the rear of a pickup truck, which then rolled over,” he said. “Both those vehicles were occupied just by their drivers and they were both transported as a trauma alert to the hospital.”
Both men were taken to Memorial Regional Hospital in . Their conditions were unknown.
The roadway was closed for about four hours during the investigation.
Witness Adonis Leone told several people prevented the driver of the Dodge from running away from the crash scene.
“They tackled him down until the cops came and the cops questioned him,” he said. “You could smell the alcohol on him when he was talking.”
The names of the dead bicyclist, and both drivers were not immediately available.
This was the second fatal bicycle collision Friday.
A about 5:40 a.m. when a car struck him on Hillsboro Boulevard under the Interstate 95 overpass in , the Broward Sheriff’s Office said.
In this case, the driver remained at the scene of the collision.
