Because of a crash involving a woman who a witness says was run over by multiple vehicles, all southbound lanes of Interstate 95 are closed at the Atlantic Boulevard exit (Exit 36) through Pompano Beach.
Drivers heading south are being diverted at Atlantic Boulevard, according to the .
As alternates, drivers can use Florida‘s Turnpike, University Drive or State Road 7 to the west of I-95 or Federal Highway (U.S. 1) to the east.
The agency was called to the crash scene shortly after 2 a.m.
A man who declined to give his name said he is one of the drivers who struck the woman — but unlike some others he remained at the crash scene.
“I was driving southbound on I-95 about 1:30 or 2 in the morning and laying across the road was what looked to be a body and I couldn’t react in time and I ran it over,” he said.
After getting out of his car, the driver said he spoke to a motorcyclist who quickly rode away from the scene after indicating that the person in the road was a woman. Whether the motorcycle rider was involved in the crash wasn’t immediately known.
However, the witness who admits striking the woman said after he called 911 he saw other vehicles also run over the body, but only some of them stopped and stayed at the scene.
“I can’t believe people can run over a body in the road and not stop,” he said.
